Executive Management Intern
Under general supervision, this internship position performs responsible work in support of
various activities for the City Manager's office and various departments throughout the city. The purpose of this position is to provide the selected candidate with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of disciplines related to local government operations. Works on special projects that require research and analysis.
Minimum Education & Experience
Must be a college graduate student majoring in Political Science, Public Administration, Business, Economics, or similar field of study.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Municipal government methods.Ability to:
Use spreadsheet and word processing applications (Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook).
Perform work based upon broad instructions and general supervision.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands and meet established deadlines.
Provide management with sound, positive advice and information concerning incumbent's area of responsibility.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with the public and other employees.
Abide by City and department administrative directives, policies and procedures.
Advanced skills in operating office equipment and machinery.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Strong public contact and customer service skills.
Strong spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
Special Requirements, Licenses and Certifications
Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
Physical demands include but are not limited to: Sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving; use of hands and fingers to operate office equipment and machines; and occasionally lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 25 pounds.
Work is performed primarily in an office setting or well-lighted and temperature-controlled working environment.
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: Multi-line telephone, fax, copier, scanner, computer, printer, calculator, and vehicle.
